Objective: Each group should use our shared Narrow River Data Set to teach us something interesting.
assign roles in your group: 2 people should analyze data, 1 person should do background research and 1 person should write the conclusion.
use a graph as evidence for your claims.
Question:
Group Members: Lori Ann, Jillian, Morgan F. and Alexa
Background Research
Dissolved oxygen gives a measure that can apply to aquatic organisms. A healthy reading is 8mg/L or higher
Dissolved oxygen is higher in fresh water than salt water. Movement of water can increase dissolved oxygen.
Why is this question interesting?
What is the relationship of the distance from the mouth of the river and the measure of dissolved oxygen?
Graphing the Distance from the Mouth of the River vs. Dissolved Oxygen
Graph:
What Does This Mean???
We expected to see the dissolved oxygen to be higher at the source of the river because freshwater has more oxygen. We also expected the dissolved oxygen to be higher at the mouth of the river because of the movement of the water and that the freshwater is less dense than saltwater and would have been on top. The graph would have been in a U shape. We did not see these results because only three of the samples were kept on ice. The other three samples were not kept on ice, and they could have had higher rates of bacterial respiration.
